U.S. Naval Sea Cadets: R. D. Stethem Battalion
The Sea Cadet program has a structured advancement program that requires cadets to complete their advancement requirements within a specific number of months (Time in Grade). The program also is designed to help you as a Sea Cadet or League Cadet develop your leadership skills throughout your time in the program.

BASIC ADVANCEMENT REQUIREMENTS
For each rank you will need to complete the following:
POLARIS COURSEWORK each rank has a specific course in POLARIS, your online training platform, that teaches you various military, seamanship and leadership topics that are specific to your rank.
ADVANCEMENT EXAM you will need to take and pass an ADVANCEMENT EXAM to advance for each rank. Advancement Exams are based on your current Rank's coursework in POLARIS and are administered during Drills after you have completed your coursework.
PHYSICAL READINESS TEST you must achieve a PASSING (Level 3 or above) score on your PRT for the current cycle
TIME IN GRADE you must be in your current Rank for a minimum amount of time before being eligible for advancement to the next rank. This is also how much time you have to complete all other requirements for advancement. Failure to do so will make you fall behind in the program.
TIME IN PROGRAM the minimum amount of time you must be a League Cadet before being eligible for advancement. Your Time in Program is the total sum of the Time in Grade for each rank you have achieved.
The League Cadet Advancement Ladder displays what rank and leadership level you should achieve depending on how long you have been serving as a League Cadet.
The Advancement Ladder also features recommend Billets (roles) that cadets can serve as in order to help build and improve their leadership skills.
