U.S. Naval Sea Cadets: R. D. Stethem Battalion
PHYSICAL READINESS TEST (PRT)
All Sea Cadets and League Cadets are required to perform and pass a PRT for each PRT cycle.
There are two (2) PRT cycles each year:
CYCLE ONE: January - June
CYCLE TWO: July - December
PRT EXERCISES
Each Cadet will perform the following PRT exercises (called PRT Events) during their PRT
PUSH UPS Cadets will perform as many push ups in the proper push up form as you can in a One (1) minute period. The more push ups you complete, the higher your score.
PLANKS Cadets will perform and hold a plank in the proper plank form as you can. The longer you can hold the plank, the higher your score.
ONE (1.0) MILE RUN Cadets will run a 1.0 MILES on a measured course. Your score is determined by the time it takes you to complete the entire distance. The faster your time, the higher your score.
YOU MUST RECEIVE A PASSING SCORE IN EACH OF THE THREE (3) PRT EVENTS
IN ORDER TO PASS YOUR PRT
For example, passing your Push Ups and Plank events, but failing your Run event will result in a Failure for the PRT as a whole.
BATTALION PRT POLICY
Cadets will perform a PRIMARY PRT during the scheduled drill announced in the POD. This event is a MANDATORY DRILL.
Exceptions/excusals from the Primary PRT Drill will be given on a case by case basis and will only be approved by the CO. Parents of League Cadets must inform and request permission to be excused. Cadets excused from this drill MUST attend the scheduled MAKEUP PRT drill.
FAILURE TO ATTEND BOTH THE PRIMARY AND THE MAKEUP PRT DRILLS WILL RESULT IN AN
ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURE FOR THE PRT CYCLE.
ALL CADETS must review your PRT scores prior to the PRT Drill day to make sure you know your MINIMUM PASSING REQUIREMENTS. Parents please review these scores with your Cadet to ensure they know exactly what is needed to pass their PRT.
Cadets who fail the PRIMARY PRT will have the opportunity to reattempt during the MAKEUP PRT.
Cadets who fail both PRIMARY and MAKEUP attempts will be given an additional Makeup attempt only when your parent can confirm you have made significant improvement and are able to meet minimum passing scores. Conduct a practice PRT at home with your parents to verify you can pass.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH NSCC POLICY, CADETS WHO DO NOT PASS A PRT FOR
THREE (3) CONSECUTIVE PRT CYCLES (1.5 YEARS) WILL BE
REMOVED FROM THE SEA CADET PROGRAM.
